Mighty Wings

Mighty Wings is a beautiful book for children about the Monarch butterfly.  The book describes the Monarch’s life cycle and migration journey. It is scientifically accurate, but also fun!  Colorful photos and illustrations are delightful to all, not just children. You may download two songs to accompany the story.

How Children Learn

Children learn with all their senses.  A story like Mighty Wings engages children with pictures and music.  Add creative movement and art to have a well rounded learning experience. The authors Debbie Clement and Sarah Joy use repetition and rhyme. As Dr. Suess showed us, these elements are important in reading development.  I can imagine so many activities to enrich your child’s experience. For instance, you can work on math by counting the various butterflies on a page or working on the patterns of the caterpillar’s stripes.  Similarly, play a game of “I Spy” to see who can find the emerald green chrysalis.  Make it fun and your child will stay engaged!
